Axe
The Commoner’s Axe
Before it was a weapon, it was a tool—used for felling trees, splitting wood, and working the land. But when war came, farmers and herdsmen reached for what they already knew. A sharpened axe could defend a village as readily as it cut timber. Unlike costly swords, the axe was accessible to every household: simple, effective, and deadly in strong hands. It was the survival weapon of ordinary people, pressed into extraordinary wars.
Description
Sword Masters Challenge’s Ready for Battle Axe is a 60 cm LARP weapon modeled after these practical tools. Its 55 cm wood-textured handle supports a 12 cm rectangular axe head with a 15 cm curved edge. Constructed from closed-cell foam around a fiberglass core and finished with latex, it balances durability, safety, and realism.
History
Axes were the most common weapons of poorer warriors across Viking, Saxon, and Celtic cultures—affordable, multipurpose tools that became symbols of necessity and ferocity in battle.
