Celtic Leaf Blade

$110.00

Among the Celts, blades were more than iron—they carried spirit, identity, and divine power. The leaf-shaped sword, common in the late Bronze and early Iron Ages, was valued for its versatility in both slashing and thrusting. In myth, druids called upon the Tuatha Dé Danann, trading mortal life for eternal presence in the Otherworld. From these pacts came enchanted weapons blessed by the Aos Sí, said to belong only to worthy chieftains who would wield them for the freedom of their people. Raised in battle, such a sword was not just steel, but a judgment from the gods.

Sword Masters Challenge’s Celtic Leaf Sword is an 85 cm LARP weapon inspired by these legendary forms. The 65 cm leaf-shaped blade is balanced for both cuts and thrusts, while the 20 cm handle is sculpted to resemble carved wood and metal. Built with closed-cell foam around a fiberglass core and finished with a latex coating, it offers durability, safety, and the aesthetic of a warrior’s relic—perfect for Celtic, druidic, or high-fantasy kits.

History
Leaf-bladed swords were widespread across Europe, especially among Celtic tribes. Their unique widening and narrowing profile gave excellent cutting power without sacrificing thrust. Archaeological finds across Britain and Ireland confirm their importance both as weapons and symbols of status. In Celtic myth, weapons often carried divine purpose—sometimes linked to Dagda, father of the Tuatha Dé Danann, whose mighty club could both kill and restore life. Though not a sword, his legend reflects the belief that arms could embody supernatural force. The leaf sword, therefore, sits at the crossroads of history and myth, remembered as a weapon of warriors and a sign of chieftainship blessed by the gods.
