Viking's Spear

The Viking Spear
The spear was the true weapon of the Viking Age—carried by jarls and farmers alike, affordable, versatile, and deadly. Light enough to throw, long enough to thrust from behind a shield wall, it was the mark of a warrior. Leaf-shaped spearheads like this one have been unearthed from graves across Scandinavia and the British Isles, heirlooms layered with the stories of each campaign. More than swords, spears defined Norse warfare: thrusting in formation, hurling into enemy ranks, and carried abroad to England, Francia, and even Miklagard in service to the Varangian Guard. In myth, Odin himself bore the spear Gungnir, a symbol of fate and unerring strike.
